Notes |
Arthur was one of three original owners of the Bangor Tire Company.Arthur, Howard Collmer, and Percival Merrill were the three partners. Bangor Tire was located on Franklin street, where Panda Garden is now located and before that Benjamins Bar. On January 13, 1949 Arthur bought 20% of the Houlton Bowling Alley on Bangor Street in Houlton,ME.
Howard Collmer owning the other 80%. Arthur also was part owner of the CMW Realty Co., Apparently the three partners in Bangor Tire also were partners in this venture around 1949-1950. Arthur enjoyed his hunting camp, in Alton Maine on Sargent Bog, and his summer home in Castine Maine. He enjoyed fishing with his friends, including Bud Leavitt and on occasion Baseball great Ted Williams. He was at one time a member of the
Coast Guard Reserve. Arthur also enjoyed his vegatable garden in Bangor. He was known to dabble in the stock market and at the time of his death owned several shares of some very big companies, such as AT&T, leaving his wife a very well to do woman. He was a member of the Bangor Lodge of Elks, Bangor Lions Club, and an active member of Saint Mary's Church in Bangor.

I would like to get more info on the eliakim photo, the clothes worn do not appear to be consistent with a photo of a middle age man in 1840? they appear to be more consistent with possibly around 1890?
I wonder if this is actually his son frederick at a younger age of possibly 40 in 1890?
If you look @ Fredericks photo at a later age the resemblence in hair line & jaw structure is very similar.
Just my thoughts, my father Captain Arthur Wardwell Jr has an actual Daugerrete that is been reviewed to be around 1842 to 1850, it was in my grandfathers(Arthur wardwell Sr - oldest son of Frank S Wardwell who is a son of Fredericks) possesion. I beleive that this photo of a middle aged man is possibly Captain Eliakem @ about age 42 tsken about 1844?
If you would like me to send pdf copy of this picture, let me know.
