Notes |
WOOSTER, DAVID, soldier, state legislator, was born March 2, 1710, in Stratford, Conn. He became a brigadier-general in 1775; was one of the originators of the expedition which captured Ticonderoga in 1775; and served as a member of the Connecticut assembly. He was a gallant soldier; and also contributed valuable articles to the literature of the day. For many years he was major-general of the Connecticut militia. He was shot while annoying the enemy's rear-guard with two hundred men in protecting his state from the enemy. He filled many public offices of honor in the civil service prior to the revolutionary war. He was taken to Danbury, and died there May 2, 1777.
