Notes:
At a meeting held June 14, 1722, it was voted to give fourty-two lots of forty acres each, as near the centre of the town as the land would admit, to such persons as would fulfill the conditions of the charter. Considerable difficulty was found in getting settlers to take up the land on those conditions. After sundry meetings a number of persons were found who agreed to take the forty-acre lots and settle upon them, when a committee was chosen to proceed to Barrington with the proposed settlers and lay out their lots.

This committee reported, June 27, 1727, that after having been upon the land, and having with them certain persons who had agreed to settle, "the land proving to be so extraordinary bad by reason of its being so extremely rocky and stony that none of those present would accept it," and they thought it "impracticable to settle upon it."
