Miles Grove, Erie, Pennsylvania, United States

Notes:
Now Lake City.

Lake City is the northernmost of the three boroughs that lie within the boundaries of Girard Township. With Lake Erie to the north, the soil has been excellent for growing fruits and vegetables. Girard Borough is just south and shares a common border as well as many municipal and business resources and a school district.

The influential Miles family were early settlers, with a judge among them, and the community that grew here came to be known as Miles Grove. While Girard Borough to the south was benefiting from the canal, Miles Grove was in the path of the coming iron horse. The Cleveland, Painesville & Ashtabula Railroad was the first to put down track. On the morning of February 16, 1861, the Presidential Special of President-elect Abraham Lincoln stopped briefly so the crowds could see and hear him. The Girard Guards were there to perform a military salute. Famed newspaperman, Horace Greeley, joined the train at the Miles Grove Depot and rode with the inaugural party into Erie for ceremonies there. Four years later, when President Lincoln's funeral train passed through, it traveled the same route through Miles Grove, not stopping this time, although many of the same citizens had gathered again to watch it pass through.
