Frederick Freeman Wardwell was born on 9 Oct 1851 in Penobscot, Hancock Co., Maine He appeared on the census in 1870 in Penobscot, Hancock Co., Maine, age 18 as a seaman. He appeared on the census in 1880 in Castine, Hancock Co., Maine age 28, also as a seaman. He appeared on the census in 1910 in Penobscot, Hancock Co., Maine age 58. He died on 30 Mar 1916 in Penobscot, Hancock Co., Maine from tuberculosis. He was a Grand Banks fisherman. 

Frederick and practically all of his brothers went to sea. He, himself, went to the Grand Banks fishing for 20 years, usually from April to October and during the winter months went on foreign voyages in the old square rigged ships. He was Captain of several vessels. He died from tuberculosis. While on a trip, he was taken ill with measles and was put ashore at Vinyard Haven, Massachusetts in the Marine Hospital. Being disgusted with medical attention given him there, he ran away from the hospital while still very ill and came home where he was in bed for months. He contracted T.B. from which he never recovered, being sick for 16 years before he passed away at the age of 64. 

He was married to Emma Rosina Perkins on 14 Oct 1870 in Penobscot, Hancock Co., Maine.
