THIRD GENERATION

Edith A. Hutchings was born on 7 Mar 1840. She appeared on the census in 1850, age 10, and 1860, age 20, in Penobscot, Hancock Co., Maine. She married James Hudson Hutchings (her second cousin) on 4 Mar 1858 in Penobscot. They had four children together and he committed suicide on  29 Apr 1869. She relocated to Lynn, Essex Co., Massachusetts by 1870, probably to care for her sister in her illness. She also ran a boarding house while in Lynn. She can be found in the census there in 1870 and 1880. When her sister Abbie died in 1878, she adopted Abbie's only child Jessie. For whatever the reason, Abbie's husband was unable to care for the child. She married second Benjamin Phillip Grover on 5 Jul 1893 in Lynn. This was his second marriage also. He died in 1909 in East Bucksport. She died on 17 Jan 1925 in East Bucksport, Hancock Co., Maine. and was buried in Hillside Cemetery there.
